About The Department
Year of Establishment: 1988
Department of Commerce of Kalipada Ghosh Tarai Mahavidyalaya, Bagdogra was established with the very inception of the college in the year 1988. The department started with offering general degree courses of three-year B.com Honours & B.Com. Program and has adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the year 2018. The department inhouse its own departmental library for the students and teachers to promote uninterrupted learning beyond classroom.
Major strength of the Department of Commerce is its strong team of learned and experienced teachers, well equipped with teaching and learning skills, having vibrant experience in Research & Development. The faculty is always ready to impart the students with their curriculum, analytical and other personality development programmes, helping them in attaining goals and jobs in various fields.
During the span of 36 years, the department has been providing comprehensive, integrated and intercultural quality education, leading its way in value education, serving industry and society through excellence in teaching and education, and cultivating talent. By doing so, we are dedicated to building nations and societies. to learn.

Departmental Rules
- Student must carry identity card with them in the campus and produce it on demand by authority.
- Use of mobile cell is not allowed in the college campus.
- Student must attend popular lecture/ seminars/ debates/ functions arranged by the college, for overall personality development of the students
- Students are expected to take active part in extra-curricular activities organized by the college from time to time.
- Students must park their vehicles in the parking stand only and bicycles with proper lock system.
- Home assignments, test, tutorials, seminar are compulsory.
- Students must go through various notices and circulars displayed on the notice boards of the college from time to time regarding all activities including examinations, scholarships and placement opportunities
- Dress code for the students is compulsory.
- Attendance in each class is compulsory.
- During class hours a student can't leave the class room without the consent of the concerned Teacher.
- Absence from tests/assessment/instructional exercises and non-accommodation of tasks in time will make a student ineligible for internal marks. No reason will be engaged from there on.
- During break hours, students are encouraged to utilize the library, and PC lab.
- Smoking is a unhealthy habit and use of Tobacco is banned in the college premises
- The college premises are plastic free. Conveying of any sort of plastic pack within the premises is totally restricted.
- Students should avoid any anti social activities
- Students should deal with their possessions. The college is not liable for any misfortune
Distinctiveness
MOU with Bajaj Finserv
We entered into a memorandum of understanding with Bajaj Finserv in the year 2021 to offer our students a 96 Hours Certificate Programme in Banking, Finance and Insurance (CPBFI) training. This collaboration provides students with industry-relevant knowledge and skills, enhancing their employability prospects. Centum Learning is the knowledge partner of Bajaj Finserv providing trainers for CPBFI program.
Partnership with Institute of Computer Accountant, Siliguri
Through a mutual understanding with the Institute of Computer Accountant, Siliguri, GST practical courses are offered at a subsidised fee to our students. This initiative equips students with a practical insight into GST filing, preparing them for real-world challenges in taxation.
Add-on Course on Personal Finance
Our department offers an Add-on Course on Personal Finance, focusing on essential aspects such as financial planning, Insurance, Taxation, and Banking. This course empowers students to make informed financial decisions and secure their future.
Emphasis on ICT Classes
We place a strong emphasis on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in our teaching methodology. By integrating ICT classes, we ensure that our students are proficient in using technology for various commerce-related tasks, enhancing their efficiency and productivity.
Income Tax E-Filing Training
We conduct training sessions on income tax e-filing, enabling students to develop practical skills in filing income tax returns. This initiative empowers students to independently file their IT returns and gradually consider freelancing opportunities.
Workshops on Skill Development Courses
To further enhance the employability of our students, we regularly organize workshops on skill development courses. These workshops cover a wide range of topics, including communication skills, leadership development, and professional etiquette.
Stock Market Webinar with BSE and NSE
We organize webinars in collaboration with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), providing students with insights into stock market operations and investment strategies.
Guest Lectures by CA & CS Professionals
We invite Chartered Accountants (CA) and Company Secretaries (CS) to deliver lectures, offering students valuable insights into industry practices and career opportunities in finance and commerce.
Career Awareness Programs
We organize career awareness programs to guide students in exploring diverse career paths and making informed decisions about their professional futures.

I welcome you to the Department of Commerce with which Kalipada Ghosh Tarai Mahavidyalaya started its glorious journey on 21st November 1988. Over the passage of time the college has achieved many prestigious and memorable moments in which our department has great contribution. The commitment of our department is to offer high quality education, skill development, leadership qualities and value-based knowledge to cater the dynamic needs of the globalized business world.
Our experienced and responsible faculty, the backbone of our department is dedicated to educate our students with the change in global trends of commerce education. Their focus is to empower a diverse community of students able to cope with the challenging world.
