Latex-free gloves(department approved) and safety goggles may be used wherever required. During specific experiments, your instructor may mandate the use of gloves for safety purposes. It's essential to note that gloves should not be worn for more than 2 hours continuously without replacement. - Students are advised not to eat or drink in the lab. Food may pick up toxic chemicals.
- Students are advised to never put anything back into a reagent bottle. They are expected to always take as little of a chemical as possible and use only clean, dry spatulas for removing chemicals from bottles.
- Students should never directly inhale fumes or vapors from chemicals. For substances that are hazardous or irritating, one is advised to utilize fume hoods. When checking odors, gently waft them toward your nose using your hand rather than leaning in directly.
- Students are instructed not to taste any chemical. Some chemicals are very corrosive and poisonous in very small quantities.
- Students must not to perform an unauthorized experiment, An accident may happen when mixing simple chemicals. They are advised to work in presence of the an instructor in charge (or Lab attendant) for safety reasons.
- Under no circumstances should anything be taken from the laboratory, including chemicals or glassware. Such actions are not only strictly prohibited but also illegal.
- Student must label all containers to identify their contents.

Distinctiveness
The department is devoted to serve the students through dedicated and highly motivated faculties. The teaching and learning is not confined to the scheduled class hours. Students can approach faculties for queries over phone and teachers are always ready to help them through answer and/ or by providing supporting materials in whatsapp or by running additional online sessions through “Google meet” in Google classroom. The department has well equipped laboratories with sufficient equipments. It has a small library which can be accessed by the students for reference study material. The department tries to address the issues of individual students through effective mentoring process and provide academic, financial, mental support wherever needed.
The Department of Chemistry has created distinctiveness in its appearance through creating an effective platform of collaboration and research. Presently the department is in collaboration with Department of Chemistry, Institute of Sciences, BHU and industries like Scrips Pharma , Hydearbad and Peak Chemical Industries, Siliguri. The department has signed two memoranda and has publications and patents which reflect the constant effort to stretch beyond the comfort zone and the effectiveness of it.

Message From HOD
As the Head of the Department, it gives me immense pleasure to introduce to you the Department of Chemistry which humbly stands at the South West corner of Kalipada Ghosh Tarai Mahavidyalaya campus to embrace you and include in Chemistry fraternity. Since its inception, Department of Chemistry has been catering to the thirst of the students to have the exquisite knowledge in the fields of Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Industrial chemical sciences. With CBCS and FYUGP, more advanced courses like Green Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry have emerged giving opportunity to learn sustainable chemical sciences including sustainable drugs.
The department is devoted to deliver, through highly skilled faculties, in not only in academics through teaching but in the field of research as well. The department has evolved well through collaborative research and presently linked with industries and institute of different University and thereby creating an interface of academics and Industry aiming to give the students a better exposure. The department helps the students to develop soft skills through certified programs and make them aware of job opportunities through career counseling sessions. The department believes in learning by doing. Students are encouraged to work on the bench, read books and express their knowledge in students seminar or in workshop. A small departmental library often engages students to inculcate a practice which is getting grey and needs to grow.
The department ensures care for each and every sincere student through effective mentorship and our faculties are accessible for academic discussion even beyond office hours through Whatsapp messenger or through Google meet. The department is determined to shape a student into a good intellectual of reasonable morality and mental strength. The department has its own facebook page. Apart from Departmental events, the wall often finds spiritual talks of on how to increase concentration, stress management and similar qualities which are essential for completeness for a student.
