About The Department
Year of Establishment: 1995
The Department of History was established in the year 1995 and started with general courses and History Honours Course was introduced in 1998. There was a huge demand of History as it supports in competitive examinations and helps in understanding the culture of the country and the locality. Most of the time there were four teachers in the department and now one Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor, and two SACTs are in the department.
Our department has produced students who are catering society in different capacities in the different parts of the state. To make our student understand the department well and the subject better, we organise debates, seminars and help them with the reading materials. Students are guided by the teachers as relation of the mentor and the Mentee and additional classes were also engaged to make them understand the subject better.
Our Vision
- To equip them with necessary knowledge of historical studies - with a focus on the Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian History and World history etc- so that they can develop a love for history on their own.
- To develop their historical knowledge which is fundamental in today's job market.
- To develop their research skills so that they can engage in research on their own.
- To develop the critical thinking so that they can become conscious and responsible citizens of the country.
- To make them socially aware and inculcate in them the values of cooperation, sacrifice and fellow feeling with their fellow beings and make them compatible with the changing society.
Our Mission
- Interactive class through PPT and audio visual methods.
- ICT enable classes through Google meet as part of hybrid mode of teaching.
- The department of history screen various movies based on historical text as well as movies by renowned directors from across the globe for developing historical knowledge and historical thinking and cultural issues of the students.
- We organize student seminars, student workshops, debates on contemporary issues, quiz competition, essay writing competition, occasional exhibition, museum visit, food exhibition etc for developing communicative skills.
- We organize special lectures by renowned academicians to make the students aware of the latest developments in the historical and intellectual fields.
History Department Rules
Class Attendance
Students must maintain at least 75% attendance in all history courses to be eligible for final examinations.
Academic Integrity
Cheating are strictly prohibited. Any student caught engaging in these activities will face disciplinary action.
Assignment Submission
All assignments must be submitted by the specified deadlines. Late submissions will incur a penalty unless an extension has been granted in advance due to valid reasons.
Classroom Conduct
Respectful behavior towards instructors and fellow students is expected at all times. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the class. Electronic devices should be used responsibly during class. Phones should be on silent mode, and laptops or tablets are permitted only for note-taking and relevant academic activities.
Examinations
Students must bring their college ID to all examinations. No student will be admitted to an exam without proper identification and uniform. Any form of communication between students during exams is prohibited. Any suspicious behavior will be reported to the examination board.
Grievance Procedure
Students with grievances related to coursework or departmental policies should first seek resolution with the course instructor. If unresolved, the matter can be escalated to the department head. Formal complaints must be submitted in writing and will be reviewed by a departmental committee.
Office Hours and Communication
Faculty members will hold regular office hours each week for student consultations. Students are encouraged to make use of these hours for academic assistance.
Distinctiveness
- We have shortage of faculty members and there is a huge number of students but we are committed to provide the best to our students.
- We are committed to provide our students with necessary historical writing skill, research paper and critical thinking skill useful not only in the academic but also in the life at large.
- The resources and academic activities that the department of history offers make them understand the past better to fit in better in the modern society.
- We try to connect them with society by organising the education trip and societal interactions.
