Year of Establishment: 2012
The Department of Physics at Kalipada Ghosh Tarai Mahavidyalaya, Bagdogra was established in the year 2012, offering General degree course of three-years (1+1+1) B.Sc. programme with a mission to provide quality education and to make the students entrepreneur and employable. As per directives of the University of North Bengal, the department adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the year 2018 and started B.Sc.(NEP) Physics Major course in the year 2023 as a continuous upgradation of teaching-learning process and of the course modules.
The department has total staff strength of three including two teaching and one non-teaching staff. The department has one classroom and three laboratory rooms, which include General Physics lab, Electronics lab and Optics lab.
Major strength of the Department of Physics is its experienced teaching fraternity, well equipped laboratory and a departmental library with useful books, study materials and laboratory manuals. The faculty-team is always ready to impart outcome based education as well as to extend their helping hands not only for the academic developments of students but also for setting up the future road-map of the students. Tutorials and remedial classes are held regularly to address students’ queries and doubts. The department also encourages students to think outside the box so that they can encounter with the real-world problems effectively.
Over the years, eminent scientists and academicians delivered lectures on popular science topics for inducting the students towards the recent developments of science and technology. Furthermore, the objective is to inspire, prepare, and empower students to succeed in the ever-changing world in terms of offering a rich experience in the field of Physics to think critically and communicate the concerned concepts effectively.

Mission

- To encourage the young minds for getting proper knowledge in both theory and practical Physics.
- To support the students’ developmental activities, in terms of organizing invited lectures by eminent speakers, seminars, power-point presentation by students, interactive classes etc.
- To develop strategy in the Department for continuous Improvement
- To explore the functional & realistic aspects of the subject
- To foster employability skills
- To develop their skills through value-based education
Department rules
- Minimum attendance: Every student should have at least 75% of attendance in each and every paper of a particular semester.
- Attendance in Class test and other college exams is mandatory.
- Leave Rule: If a student remains absent for consecutive 3 or more number of days, he or she should give prior application to the Head of the Department and to the Principal citing the proper reason of absence. In case of medical or any other emergency, the student should inform Head of the Department or any other teacher of the department through phone call or whatsapp and submit application with proper document or evidence on the day of joining.
- Rules for departmental library: Students can read and take photographs of books, study materials or lab manual sitting in the department. But they are not allowed to take those with them at their home.
Distinctiveness
- We always keep in touch with our students through whatsapp groups to readily resolve their individual doubts and queries
- We conduct remedial/tutorial/doubt-clearing classes with focus on every individual for the proper nurturing and development of weak students
- We create environment for student-faculty friendly interactions to provide them both academic and mental support and guidance
- We create opportunities for our students to read books and get study materials from departmental collections of books, study materials and lab manuals.
- We engage students in active learning experiences through mini projects, seminar presentations and poster presentation

Welcome to the Department of Physics at Kalipada Ghosh Tarai Mahavidyalaya. Since its inception in 2012, we are committed to furnish the latest demand in the field of education, through the ongoing practices in online and face to face teaching in a student-friendly, nurturing academic environment and in organizing various invited lectures on contemporary topic of the Physics-world, with a vision to set a goal for designing the future of aspiring students for their success in modern world in terms of commitment for serving the nation. Through personalized support and guidance, innovative teaching methodologies and comprehensive use of technology, we aim to equip our students to overcome socio-economic challenges and become well-rounded individuals and responsible citizens.
Our department is one among the basic science departments, imparting the fundamental knowledge on Mechanics, Optics, Thermodynamics, Electricity, Quantum Physics, Nuclear Physics, Solid State Physics, Energy Resources etc. to students which is required for their future endeavor. The department is well equipped with many experimental set ups, and provide excellent theoretical and practical knowledge in physics.
